Native to South America, farming alpacas is mainly concentrated to the high altitudes of Peru; our herd of Huacayas are friendly, curious and gentle creatures.
They are easy to handle and do not require a special diet, just some extra vitamins and minerals and the usual worming and vaccinations. Shearing happens once a year, usually just before summer.
Alpacas have a soft padded foot which makes them a great choice to keep the grass down without causing damage or erosion to the soil.
The gestation period for an alpaca is 11 months and they generally give birth during the day so if you’re lucky enough, you might just see a baby alpaca (Cria) being born. If you miss the birth, a trip to the farm is definitely worth your while, there is nothing cuter than a fluffy baby alpaca!
If you can’t help but fall in love with them, we have alpacas available for purchase.
